Arizona State University will add another biosciences heavy hitter to its roster this spring, when Columbia University’s Center for Science, Policy, and Outcomes joins its lineup.
The prestigious science policy think tank was lured to Arizona by President Michael Crow, who came to ASU from Columbia in 2001. Dan Sarewitz, the center’s founding director, will join ASU in April, but it is unclear how many other employees will join him.
The center is the latest in a string of research improvements Crow has brought to the campus, including launching the Arizona Biodesign Institute and establishing the school of life sciences.
Jeffrey Trent, TGen’s president and scientific director, applauded the move.
“He (Sarewitz) is a perfect fit for Arizona State and, actually, for the State of Arizona,” Trent told the Arizona Republic. “He’s really an expert on outcomes-based research. He is coming at a terrific time.”
