Dr. Ballard will describe some of his notable deep-sea discoveries as well as how scientists can motivate students by bringing the thrill of discovery and exploration into the classroom. About The JASON Project Dr. Ballard founded JASON in 1989 after he discovered the RMS Titanic and thousands of students wrote him asking to join his next expedition. Today, JASON provides multimedia science curriculum and professional development to middle-grade students and teachers across the country and around the world. Named for the mythological Greek adventurer, JASON offers students and teachers a distinctive opportunity to learn through exploration, discovery and connections with real scientists. Independent evaluations have shown that JASON’s curriculum helps students grasp a deeper understanding of complex science concepts. JASON’s mission is to improve the way science is taught by allowing students to learn directly from leading scientists. Through partnerships with agencies such as NASA and NOAA, JASON immerses students in cutting-edge science with a technology-rich, multimedia curriculum.
