[Source: Phoenix Business Journal] - Suwan Kim, a breast cancer researcher at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, was frustrated when Valley patients could not easily donate extracted tumor tissue to TGen for research.
She first encountered the obstacle when a breast cancer survivor touring TGen’s facilities told her she wanted to donate her tumors to the organization for research. The patient gave Kim the name of her oncologist at John C. Lincoln Health Network, but Kim was told she couldn’t access the patient’s tissue samples because of regulatory and patient confidentiality issues.
