The use of progesterone in traumatic brain injury

[Source: MIHS] - Traumatic brain injury remains a significant cause of death and disability worldwide and to date, no effective pharmacologic therapies have been discovered. The ProTect III study is an important project that will hopefully give us the means to lessen the impact of this disease on our patients" states trauma surgeon and ProTECT Co-PI Dr. P. J. O'Neill. In a NIH funded trial, researchers in the Surgery and Emergency Research Departments are coordinating efforts to determine if a new medication can decrease the debilitating effects of traumatic brain injury.
