Boeing Mesa crew instrumental in first Apache bio-fuel flight
Tags: bioagriculture, biofuels[Source: The Arizona Republic] - A Boeing Apache helicopter's 20-minute flight with sustainable bio-fuel in its tank has thrust a team of test pilots and engineers from the aerospace giant's Mesa plant into aviation history.
"We have been a stalwart of green in industry for quite some time, and this fit in with what we believe is our responsibility to the environment," Boeing Apache Chief Engineer John Schibler said of the recent test flight in the Netherlands.
The demonstration was at Gilze-Rijen Airbase, nearly 5,400 miles from the Valley's second-largest city, but two research groups with Boeing's AH-64D Apache production operations in northeast Mesa "made it happen," he said.
