"The key to success in the 21st century"
Tags: darcy renfro, science foundation arizona, stemAt yesterday's conference in Phoenix on establishing Arizona's Statewide STEM Network, Darcy Renfro, Science Foundation Arizona's vice president and director of its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Initiative, described STEM as the "key to success in the 21st century."
"If we don't act now . . . through a coordinated effort, we won't get ahead," Renfro said in the Arizona Republic.
In conjunction with the conference, Gov. Jan Brewer's office announced a commitment of $100,000 in federal stimulus funding to support the statewide network. Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold chipped in with a substantially larger grant: $500,000.
The conference was sponsored by SFAZ, the Helios Education Foundation, and Research Corporation for Scientific Advancement.
