[Source: The Arizona Republic] – An experimental drug that prods the body’s immune system to attack advanced skin cancer has extended life for some patients suffering from the deadliest form of the disease.

If approved by the Food and Drug Administration, ipilimumab may give doctors another tool to fight melanoma that has spread beyond the skin to other parts of the body.

Bristol-Myers Squibb is expected to file for FDA approval later this year to market the drug, but it’s unclear whether or when the experimental drug may become more widely available.
