Berens named chief executive of IGC

Mike Berens, a key figure in Arizona'ss burgeoning genomics industry, has been named chief executive officer of the International Genomics Consortium (IGC).
Berens will transition to IGC over the next few months from his current position as vice present of research for the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), according to The Arizona Republic. He will hold a scientific appointment at TGen as a senior investigator in order to continue his federally funded lab research.
Berens was instrumental in the drive to establish TGen, a not-for-profit research institute that encompasses IGC. He spent many years as a neurological researcher at Barrow Neurological Institute.
IGC also named other key positions, including: Robert Penny, chief medical officer; Michael Bittner, chief research officer; Michael Rodgers, chief financial officer;· Max Poll, board member.
