TGen today announced plans to meet with a similar, new genomics institute in Mexico, INMEGEN, to lay the foundation of what TGen president and scientific director Jeffrey Trent has called a "shared scientific vision." Discussions will focus on interests and programs shared by both institutes, with future meetings planned for developing specific collaborative projects.
Officials hope that combining scientists from TGen (the Translational Genomics Research Institute) and INMEGEN (the National Institute of Genomic Medicine) to form a genomic brain trust will significantly increase their effectiveness in confronting shared health concerns, such as cancer and diabetes.
Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona are also involved in discussions with the genomics consortiums.
