Mental health research collaboration took center stage last week as researchers from across the state met to present their innovative work in fields ranging from psychology to neurology.
The forum, sponsored by the Institute for Mental Health Research (IMHR), gave researchers in Tucson and Phoenix who applied for IMHR pilot funding grants the opportunity to showcase their project proposals to each other, ask questions, and promote discussion.
IMHR is an Arizona-based nonprofit mental health research center. Its pilot grants provide seed money to researchers to cover the initial phase of research needed to apply for more substantial grants.
"By bringing together these people from institutions across the state, we hope to foster collaboration and stimulate ideas," said Alan Gelenberg, IMHR vice chairman. "Without collaborative opportunities like this, it's hard to know all that's going on in mental health research in the state of Arizona."
Sixteen presentations were given by individuals from a broad list of institutions, including University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Mayo Clinic, the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), Sun Health Research Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the Barrow Neurological Institute.
