Covance, a major drug development company, has announced it will break ground on its new Chandler facilities.

The New Jersey-based company will begin construction on the project's first phase, a two-story, 300,000-square-foot laboratory at Chandler Airpark near Queen Creek and Gilbert roads.

Construction of the site, which will employ 300 to 400 people, is expected to take up to two years.

The company also announced it has purchased 27 additional acres just east of the Airpark property, but has no official plans for the property this time.
