Full Story:
Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) has announced $4 million in scholarships to first-year graduate students in science, engineering, and biomedical research at Arizona's universities.
Arizona State University is getting $1.85 million. Another $1.7 million is going to the University of Arizona, with $400,000 for Northern Arizona University.
The fellowship program aims to encourage Arizona universities to set quality standards for their graduate programs and, in doing so, help those programs compete on the international scale.
SFAz was created by Greater Phoenix Leadership Inc., the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, and the Flagstaff 40 to help build a world-class science and engineering infrastructure in Arizona.
Funding for the program was made possible through the 21st Century Fund, an initiative established by the governor and Legislature that has provided an initial $35 million for SFAz investments.
