Full Story:
James Waara, a May 2005 graduate from the University of Arizona's College of Pharmacy, won the Student Research Award, a national prize given by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation.
Waara's research project compared economic outcomes of patients with acute pancreatitis who received nutrition through different delivery methods. His study found that patients treated with tube feedings had fewer complications and lower costs of care than patients who received intravenous nutrition.
This is the tenth time a UA student has won the award. No other pharmacy college has had more than two winners.
Waara is currently a pharmacy practice resident with Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix.
