Arizona Republic reporter Stephanie Innes explores the past two decades of bioscience growth in Arizona—from the launch of TGen in downtown Phoenix and its spinout companies to the recent naming of the new Arizona State University John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering—as well as the headwinds and challenges the state faces on its goal to becoming a national leader.

“Still, the recently released 2025-30 Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap, as well as several academic, community and local government leaders, indicate that Arizona’s 2002 investment in TGen has lived up to both the hype and the promise, though there’s general agreement that public awareness could be better,” Innes wrote.
