The new John C. Lincoln Breast Health and Research Center tries to ease the mammography experience with comfortable amenities. The ambient music is soothing, and the fluffy white robes are a nice touch. Everything from the calm voice while you’re on hold when calling the center to the lovely chandeliers is meant to be relaxing and reassuring.

But somewhere between the plump pink pillows in the waiting room and the stark X-rays glowing on the screen, every woman will feel that gnawing worry: What if they find something?
