Clare Aslan (’96), an NSF IGERT fellow in UC Davis’s top-ranked ecology/evolutionary biology program, is entering the critical stage of her doctoral research on various birds’ roles in the distribution of invasive plants.
She’s hoping not to repeat last February’s experience:
I had live birds that were sick and dying, so I was in the lab force-feeding them through tubes every four hours round the clock. Meanwhile, Austin was in Mexico, so couldn’t help out, and Ariel had to be with me. She had contracted stomach flu and given it to me, so the two of us were puking at 2 a.m. in the lab and the stupid bird died anyway… I don’t think it can get worse.
