Curriculum Topic Study (CTS) helps K-12 educators deepen their understanding of the important science and mathematics topics they teach by building a bridge between state and national standards, research on students’ ideas in mathematics and science, and opportunities for students to learn important concepts through improved teacher practice.

This 2-day academy will use the CTS process, tools, and materials to engage educators in a systematic and scholarly method for discovering new knowledge about teaching and learning connected to the mathematics or science topics they teach. On Day 1, Authors Page Keeley and Cheryl Rose will present the nuts and bolts of Curriculum Topic Study. On Day 2, content specialist will facilitate participant teams in applying the Curriculum Topic Study protocol with specific topics in science or mathematics.

By the end of the academy, teachers will:

  • Understand the process of Curriculum Topic Study
  • Analyze science concepts using the CTS process
  • Apply research on student learning in science to classroom implications
