The Flinn Foundation’s “Action and Impact” report highlights the growth of the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, as well as the Foundation’s current grantmaking priorities and activities across its other program areas—arts and culture, biosciences, and the Flinn Scholars program.
The Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, launched in 2010 to strengthen civic leadership throughout Arizona, has created three inter-related initiatives including the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy.
Through words, photos and graphics, including a map of Arizona that highlights the geographic diversity of the 156 Flinn-Brown Academy Fellows and more than 50 state leadership programs, “Action and Impact” looks at all facets of the center, including the Civic Leadership Collaborative and Civic Communications.
The report highlights the results of a lengthy, comprehensive review of the Phoenix-based philanthropy’s strategies to ensure grants and programs were meeting contemporary opportunities and needs. These actions and commitments are now making an impact throughout Arizona:
Biosciences
The report describes new grants and initiatives to complement continuing priorities to advance Arizona’s fast-growing bioscience sector. Included are plans for an April launch of an updated Bioscience Roadmap, the long-term strategic plan commissioned by the Foundation to guide the development of Arizona biosciences.
Arts and Culture
A new grants program to benefit the state’s largest arts and culture organizations is underway, encouraging creative programming that supports long-term sustainability.
Flinn Scholars
The Flinn Scholars Program, a 28-year-old merit-based program for Arizona’s highest-achieving students in partnership with the state universities, continues to offer new enhancements including the first summer class trip to China.
