[Source: Daniel Scarpinato, Arizona Daily Star] – A Southern Arizona lawmaker wants to allow the state retirement system to invest in research cooperatives between universities and corporations, with a promise the fund would profit from discoveries.
After successfully gutting a state endowment for research projects early this year, state Rep. Frank Antenori, R-Tucson, has introduced legislation to restore some funding by redirecting it from the Arizona State Retirement System.
But officials with the retirement system argue what Antenori has proposed is actually a mandate — and one that is potentially unconstitutional.
