[Source: The Arizona Republic] – The Banner Alzheimer’s Institute has secured $7.1 million in federal stimulus and philanthropic grants that will help spur the group’s research and caregiving efforts.

The Phoenix-based research group is the recipient of a $2.6 million federal stimulus grant that will be used to purchase a cyclotron, a 100-plus-ton device that will be a key part of its brain-imaging center.

The institute also will receive a $3.5 million grant from the European-based Nomis Foundation to assist the research group’s effort to detect and treat the mind-robbing disease in its early stages.
