Peer Mentorship

Scholar to Scholar support

The Flinn Scholars Program realizes that college comes with both exciting new opportunities and unexpected challenges. But no Flinn Scholar will have to go through these experiences alone.

The Scholars Mentorship Program was created to ensure that each incoming Scholar has a built-in support system from day one.

The 20 new Scholars each year are paired with a current Scholar mentor who offers guidance, encouragement, and insight into navigating college life at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona. These relationships help foster a strong sense of connection and community, both academically and personally, and provide another benefit for students awarded the Flinn Scholarship.

As one Scholar mentor said: “Serving as a mentor has been rewarding, and I enjoy connecting with the newest class of Flinns. They continually inspire me.

While conversations often include academic progress and career planning, the mentorship extends beyond coursework. Scholars share stories, challenges, goals, and experiences that build authentic, lasting relationships.

A first-year Scholar also praised the program.

“I wasn’t sure how it would work because we have pretty different academic interests, but it has been refreshing to have a mentorship relationship that isn’t just about my academic pursuits.

By design, this program reflects the collaborative and close-knit nature of the Flinn Scholars community—where Scholars support one another in growing, leading, and thriving.
