March Alumni Hour will feature 1987 Scholar, Jay Baer
Tuesday, March 4, 4:30-5:30 p.m. (MST)
Jay started his career in politics, as a direct mail specialist for a United States Senator. After brief forays into government service (as a spokesperson), and environmental services (as a marketer for a garbage company), he stumbled upon the Internet back when domain names were still FREE. Jay created and sold multiple digital marketing and customer experience companies, including Convince & Convert. In the early 2000s he published his first book and launched a career as a keynote speaker and event host traveling the world. Jay and his wife live in the idyllic college town of Bloomington, Indiana.

Happy Birthday, Arizona!
On this day in 1912, Arizona became the 48th state in the Union, marking the final piece of the continental United States puzzle. As we celebrate Arizona’s birthday, we’re reminded of the Flinn Foundation’s enduring commitment to building a better future for our remarkable state.
As Flinn Scholar alumni, your connection to Arizona’s legacy endures, whether you’re contributing directly to our state’s growth or representing its excellence in communities worldwide. Today, we celebrate not just our state’s history, but also the collective impact of our Flinn community in shaping Arizona’s tomorrow.
A special celebration: 40 years of achievement
The opening of a new art exhibit celebrating 40 years of the Flinn Scholars Program was an inspirational evening of art, music, dance, and conversation.
About 200 people, including 65 Scholars, attended the Feb. 1 event at the Flinn Foundation. The artworks on display featuring 21 Flinn Scholars were inspired by their personal journeys and accomplishments. Nine of the artists are Scholars as well.
The Flinn Foundation will display the Art of Achievement exhibition in its lobby and conference center throughout 2025, in partnership with Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance, as we celebrate 40 years of the program and the people who have made our state proud. We hope you will have an opportunity to visit and see these artistic interpretations of your fellow Flinn Scholars.
Life Hack Day: Where wisdom meets community

We witnessed the power of the Flinn Scholar network in action at our annual Life Hack Day. Nine dedicated alumni returned to share their experiences, insights, and practical wisdom with current Scholars, creating an invaluable bridge between generations.
The four-hour session Feb. 1 at the Phoenix Art Museum proved to be an extraordinary blend of professional guidance, life lessons, and meaningful connections. As one current Scholar perfectly captured the essence of the event:
“Life Hack Day is like reading the most inspiring and helpful book in a live 4-hour format. If you didn’t come away with new information to implement in your life, you didn’t attend.”
Perhaps even more powerful than the practical advice shared was the visible demonstration of the Flinn community’s lasting impact. Another Scholar reflected:
“I enjoyed hearing about the impact of the Flinn community well beyond college years. It was really inspiring to see people who were once in my shoes become profoundly impactful in their individual industries.”
We extend heartfelt gratitude to our nine alumni volunteers who took time from their busy schedules to invest in the next generation of leaders. These moments of connection and mentorship remind us that the Flinn Scholar Program is more than just a scholarship—it’s a lifelong community dedicated to growth, learning, and mutual support.
