Stacy Sullivan leads the Flinn Foundation’s internal and external communications strategies and activities, including marketing, community engagement, media relations, digital and print platforms; and internal, board and grantee communications. He oversees the communications staff and partners with the Foundation’s program leaders to meet their goals.

He joined the Foundation from Gannett Co., Inc, where he was director of local philanthropic partnerships for the USA Today Network, working with The Arizona Republic and the company’s largest newsrooms across the country to boost philanthropic support for local journalism. Prior to that, he was The Republic’s community-relations director, led the Season for Sharing campaign, produced the Arizona Storytellers series of live events and managed the Pulliam Fellows internship program. At The Republic, he had also led social-media and events teams; and features and politics/government reporting teams.

Sullivan is the founding chair and current board member of the Arizona Local News Foundation; member of the advisory board of the Storytelling Institute at South Mountain Community College; and Arizona chapter founder and former national board member of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. 

After getting his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Louisiana, Monroe, he worked as a reporter and held various leadership roles in newsrooms in Louisiana and Florida before moving to Arizona to join The Republic.
