[Source: Ken Alltucker, The Arizona Republic] – Medicis Pharmaceutical has received the green light from Canadian health regulators to begin selling its fat-busting device that uses ultrasound technology to break up fat beneath the skin.

The Scottsdale-based company said that Health Canada on Monday issued a medical-device license for its LipoSonix System Model 1, a hand-held device that uses ultrasound technology to break up and remove fat.

Medicis said it will launch the body-contouring technology in Canada later this year. Less clear is when the device may be available in the United States, as Medicis awaits approval by the Food and Drug Administration.
