[Source: The Arizona Daily Star] – When the University of Arizona recently spent $3 million to buy an empty drug-research facility in Oro Valley, Mayor Satish Hiremath could almost hear the cha-ching of cash registers.
Visions of future prosperity appeared as he pictured more highly-paid jobs and consumer spending – all adding up to an eventual surge in local sales tax, the single biggest source of town revenue.
The university’s plans to conduct advanced pharmaceutical research in Oro Valley will do much more than fill an empty building, Hiremath said.
