[Source: Sing on San Diego] – CommNexus, a San Diego trade group for the wireless and defense industries, has selected the first three fledgling companies for its new incubator program.

Out of 45 applicants, CommNexus and its sister organization, EvoNexus, chose Medipacs, a wireless life sciences company; IO Semiconductor, a radio chip maker; and Pixon Images, a video imaging company. They will get free mentoring from industry experts, furnished office space for up to two years and other help at no cost.

EvoNexus received a donation of office space in Sorrento Mesa from Leap Wireless to start the program. The trade group hopes to house 10 to 12 startups there. It has received about 35 applications for its second round of awards, which is expected late next month, said Cathy Pucher, the group’s executive director.
