[Source: LaMonica Everett-Haynes, Tucson Citizen] — The University of Arizona-affiliated charter school, Wildcat School, which will open next month, will hold open houses for parents. The events are meant to educate parents, potential students and neighbors about the non-profit school’s math and science instruction. The school targets low-income children and those of parents who do not have a college degree, according to school officials. Free classes start Aug. 17 for sixth- and seventh-graders. In the future, the school will add grades 8 through 12.

Here is the open house schedule:

  • July 13: School director Richard Reyes will lead a presentation on ways science is involved in everyone’s daily life.
  • July 20: The school’s English and social studies educators will lead poetry activities.
  • July 27: Reading consultants and a UA professor will lead a session exploring space, time and the universe.
  • Aug. 3: The school’s science and math teachers will present activities exploring “math magic and science fun.”
  • Aug. 10: The evening will be full of storytelling and art-making.additional information
