Arizona Bioscience Week celebrates industry successes

There is a lot to celebrate during Arizona Bioscience Week.

More than 400 life science leaders, Arizona students, innovative companies, and accredited investors will be participating in Arizona Bioscience Week, from September 15 through September 19. The major events include a company and student showcase, annual awards dinner, and the state’s first life science investor conference.

The week provides an opportunity to learn about the work being done in the state’s bioscience community to improve health and grow the economy.

The 2014 Arizona BioIndustry Association (AZBio) Awards dinner will be held Sept. 17 at the Phoenix Convention Center to honor bioscience researchers, leaders, and companies from across Arizona that are driving the industry’s growth.

2014 AZBio Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement:

2014 Public Service Award:
W.J. “Jim” Lane, Mayor of Scottsdale

2014 Arizona Bioscience Researcher of the Year:
Charles Arntzen, Ph.D., The Biodesign Institute, Arizona State University

2014 Michael A. Cusanovich Bioscience Educator of the Year:
Miles Orchinik, Ph.D., School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University

2014 Jon W. McGarity Bioscience Leader of the Year:
Jack B. Jewett, President & CEO, Flinn Foundation                                                                            

AZBio Fast Lane Award Honorees:
Cancer Prevention Pharmaceuticals, Pinnacle Transplant Technologies, SenesTech

Also on Sept. 17, the free Biotech Showcase at the Phoenix Convention Center will feature displays from Arizona companies and universities, as well as a Student Discovery Zone where high school, community college, and university students will showcase their work. In addition, life science entrepreneurs will share their experience with the community on the “Best of the Best” stage.

The major events continue on Sept. 18 with White Hat Investors 2014 —Arizona’s first life science specific investor conference—at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix.

White Hat Investors is the first Arizona biotech and healthcare investor conference that showcases the best of the Rocky Mountain and Southwest Region with more than 30 companies scheduled to present to angels, venture capitalists, and strategic investors.
