The Flinn Foundation sponsored the inaugural Arizona State Competition of the National Civics Bee on May 3, 2024. During the 2024 Arizona State Finals, participating 6th, 7th, and 8th graders showcased their knowledge of American civics and presented solutions to some of the biggest issues facing their communities. The top three finalists, received a cash prize and trophy, and the winner, Aiden Barraza, of Saint Francis Xavier, went on to represent Arizona at the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Learning about the Constitution, civic processes, government structures, and current events relevant to policymaking and politics, are important foundational skills youth need to meaningfully engage in civic life and democracy. Participating in school and community-organized civic education programs like the Civics Bee can greatly impact a young person’s outlook on civic responsibility and engagement and encourage continued participation in civic activities throughout life.
