Juan Ciscomani, a member of the first class of the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy, was interviewed in late March on Arizona Illustrated, the public-television newsmagazine produced by Arizona Public Media at the University of Arizona.

Host Kimberly Craft spoke with Ciscomani about the work of Ciscomani’s organization, the Take Charge America Institute, an educational outreach program sponsored by UA. Each semester, trained UA students present several dozen workshops promoting financial literacy to college, high-school, and middle school students. Ciscomani serves as the organization’s senior program-development specialist.

Craft and Ciscomani discussed some of the challenges that young people face in establishing and maintaining good credit, as well as TCAI’s unique efforts to encourage youth financial literacy. On April 2, the organization hosted the Arizona Financial Face-Off, a team competition testing students’ personal-finance skills.
