Congratulations to high school seniors, Kelly Zucker and Shamonti Hasan, for winning the Arizona BioGENEius Challenge — and best wishes to them in the southwest regional competition to be held April 16, 2009 at the San Francisco Convention Center.  The Southwest region includes the following states: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.

Both Arizona winners were also student interns in last summer’s RET/SIP program at Biodesign Institute at ASU:

*  Kelly and her teacher Cheryl Dunham are from Arcadia H.S., they interned in the Center for Innovations in Medicine.

*  Shamonti is from Hamilton H.S. and along with her teacher, Teresa Clark, they interned in the Center for Bio-Optical Nanotechnology.

Two regional finalists from the southwest will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete at the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge, which takes place during the BIO conference and the Biotechnology Institute’s Conference on Biotechnology Education in Atlanta, GA (May 17-19, 2009).
