Brent Maddin (’94) is bailing on the last sliver of time he was supposed to spend in Cambridge, Mass. He got a job down in New York, and will have to wrap up his dissertation from a distance.

Brent’s new digs (His office will be next door to the Strand Book Store. We’re not jealous. Really.) are the headquarters of the Teacher YOU Training Institute, a newly forming teacher-training venture founded by Hunter College and three charter-school management organizations, Uncommon Schools, Achievement First, and KIPP.

According to Education Week, they’ll be training teachers who are already in the classroom, helping them get certification and master’s degrees–with the stipulation that they have to show student achievement gains in order to get those sheepskins. Brent will be the organization’s Chief Academic Officer.
