Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University-Yuma administrators each proudly announced awards of $600,000 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) grants Monday. Funds will provide scholarships for two groups of 15 to 25 incoming science students. Mary Schaal, AWC director for research and grants and grant author, noted it was an exciting day for the AWC/NAU partnership.
Gilbert's Campo Verde High School will begin offering the district's first biomedical science courses when the school opens its doors in August. The four-year college-prep program is designed to nurture interests and expose Gilbert Unified School District students to a variety of medical careers through a hands-on approach in partnership with nearby Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announces the opportunity for investigators and United States institutions/organizations with active NIH Research Grants to request administrative supplements for the purpose of promoting job creation, economic development, and accelerating the pace and achievement of scientific research. These supplements will also encourage students to seriously pursue research careers in the health related sciences, as well as provide elementary, middle school, and high school teachers, community college faculty, and faculty from non-research intensive institutions with short term research experiences in NIH-funded laboratories.
