Sandeep Gupta, Ph.D., is leading a research team at Arizona State University to help epilepsy patients who do not respond to medication avoid seizures.
Gupta, a professor of computer science and engineering and head of the ASU IMPACT Lab, was one of the seven researchers selected by the Flinn Foundation this year for its Translational Seed Grants Program and the $100,000 award.
Gupta, through the company EpiPrecision AI, tested the technology on 352 patients and received 91% accuracy. The AI solution, DeepXSOZ. locates seizure onset zones using a 20-minute MRI brain scan without a hospital stay. More than 20 million people globally suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy, a neurological disorder that leads to seizures.
The application for the next cohort opens Monday, Aug. 3.
