The Flinn Scholars Program is seeking high-achieving Arizona high school seniors to apply for the 2027 Flinn Scholarship.

The merit-based Flinn Scholarship—valued at more than $140,000—covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona, plus at least two study abroad experiences. The scholarship will be awarded to 20 students in the spring.

The application opened Aug. 25. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The Flinn Scholarship application includes:

  • Forms that collect biographical data and information about current studies and extracurricular activities (including employment);
  • Two essay prompts and one short-answer question;
  • One academic/teacher recommendation, submitted separately by a high-school teacher who has given you a letter grade in a course;
  • One leadership/service recommendation, submitted separately by a teacher, professor, coach, employer, or community member;
  • A copy of your transcript and school profile, uploaded by your high school academic counselor on the counselor report; and
  • A self-report of standardized test scores (as applicable from ACT, AP, Cambridge, IB, and SAT). There is a minimum test score requirement of 26 on the ACT or 1230 on the SAT.

A full ride to an Arizona public university and international travel are just the beginning of what the Flinn Scholarship offers. Other advantages include:

  • Participation in an extraordinary community of more than 750 current and alumni Flinn Scholars.
  • Membership in a university honors college, with amenities including small classes, access to top researchers, and guest lectures.
  • Personal mentoring from top faculty and fellow Scholars as well as exposure to Arizona and global leaders in business, government, science, and the arts at exclusive events.
  • Intellectual, cultural and social activities developed exclusively for Flinn Scholars by both the Flinn Foundation and the universities.

The Flinn Scholarship was established in 1986 and is supported by the Phoenix-based Flinn Foundation in partnership with Arizona’s three public universities.

The deadline for the Class of 2027 to apply is Tuesday, Oct. 13. Check the Flinn Scholarship FAQ page for the timeline and additional information about the application process.

The 42nd class of Flinn Scholars will be announced in April.
