Brian Powell has served as Communications Manager for the Flinn Foundation since 2012. Brian is an experienced communications professional with expertise in science, public policy, government, education, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector. As a writer, editor, and storyteller, Brian creates content for the Foundation website as well as publications, presentations, social media, press releases, and more. In addition, Brian coordinates media relations and assists with internal communications, e-mail campaigns, strategic planning, and branding.

Brian represents the Foundation as a member of the Communications Network, a national group of foundation and nonprofit communications professionals, and the National Association of Science Writers.

A Phoenix resident since 1999, Brian previously worked as a communications manager for a Phoenix-based international religious order and as a newspaper reporter in Arizona and California. Brian is a Southern California native who attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.
