The University of Arizona Honors College named Mark Melamed (’99) its Outstanding Senior for fall 2003. The award is presented to students who exemplify the qualities of academic excellence, civic engagement and leadership, and social responsibility.

Mark is a 1999 graduate of Gilbert High School. Since his arrival at UA, he has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, won the Mark Finley Beginning Journalism competition, and received two prestigious NSEP awards for study abroad.

In his adventures to date, Mark has traveled to nearly 20 countries, spent a semester in Washington, D.C., and studied abroad on three separate occasions. Perhaps his most significant time abroad was spent in Poland, where Mark interned at the U.S. Department of State and studied the effects of globalization and the post-Cold-War era on the Eastern European nation.
