[Source: Arizona Daily Star] – While the University of Arizona’s research funding is on par with its peers, the institution lags others when it comes to making money from innovations developed on campus, according to a report presented to regents Friday.
The UA’s annual research funding of more than $500 million ranks it 15th among public universities and 23rd among all institutions in the country, and officials plan to aggressively boost the total in coming years.
Yet when compared with peers such as the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Iowa, the UA ranks near the bottom in terms of money made by licensing technology and the number of patents issued, data show.
