Valley sister city programs help foster cultural, academic and business connections

[Source: Phoenix Business Journal] – Sister city programs often are promoted as a way to bolster economic, business and tourism links between Valley municipalities and foreign markets. And while local businesspeople and economic development officials mostly support the programs, they differ on just how effective those relationships are.

Some say the programs set up through Sister Cities International involve mostly student and cultural exchanges with the potential to mature into business connections. Others say the relationships gained via the nonprofit network provide vital friends in a tough global marketplace.
