Alumni Gathering RSVP deadline is today!

It’s not too late to indicate your attendance at the alumni gathering: 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at the Flinn Foundation. Check out the attendee list here.

Honoring John Murphy’s Legacy

We asked alumni to share their memories of John, and the responses highlighted the profound impact he had on both individuals and the program. These memories paint a picture of someone who combined vision with empathy. From believing that future leaders existed in all corners of the state, to journeying with Scholars on the group seminar trips, John had the foresight to create an impactful community that we are all a part of today. Alumni stories of John are available on our website.

Gratitude for Alumni Volunteers

When we send our annual alumni survey in the summer, we include a question about how you might want to engage with the community. We are grateful to all the alumni volunteers who support our programming, selection, and recruitment efforts throughout the year. Most recently, we sent care packages to all first-year Scholars to help them get through their first finals season, and many of you contributed personal messages of encouragement to include in those packages.

Your notes made a real impact. One first-year Scholar shared:

“Hello Flinn Alumni! Thank you for your kind words and all your support. Not only do I greatly appreciate the inspiration and motivation, but I also enjoyed reading about your own feelings and experiences as a freshman. To me, it serves as a reminder that we all start somewhere, and that there are people who feel and experience similar things. Thank you again for taking the time to write such thoughtful letters. Happy holidays!”

We echo this gratitude — your generosity and care continue to strengthen the Flinn community.

Fellowship Opportunity for Graduate Students

A fellow alum shared this opportunity:

The National Forest Foundation invites graduate students (pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree) to apply for the 2026 Conservation Connect Fellowship Program [https://www.nationalforests.org/collaboration-resources/fellows]. The fellowship aims to build experience, knowledge, and skills within the next generation of collaborative and conservation leaders to support each other and advance the field. We are striving to build a cohort of emerging leaders, connecting graduate students who will go on to do important work with communities and public lands in the future.

Arizona Theatre Company asked us to share this opportunity with the alumni community:

The Arizona Theatre Company is thrilled to invite interest from Flinn Scholar Alumni for a unique opportunity to join our Board of Trustees. As we enter our 59th season, we are seeking passionate leaders with expertise in social media, finance, mental health, or technology to help shape the next chapter of this storied institution.

Whether you reside in the Phoenix metro area or Tucson, this is a remarkable moment to influence audience growth, elevate community engagement, and contribute your strategic insight to one of Arizona’s flagship cultural organizations.

If you’re excited about strengthening the arts in Arizona and helping guide ATC’s future, we would love to explore this opportunity with you. Please reach out to [email protected], Governance Chair.
